La primera imagen de una especie de Rosa se encuentra en la Isla de Cnossos, Grecia, y corresponde al siglo XVI a. C. La isla de Rhodas, tambi\u00e9n en Grecia, recibi\u00f3 ese nombre por el cultivo de las rosas; existen monedas de esa isla, de hace 4000 a. C, con im\u00e1genes de ellas. Las rosas se cultivaban tambi\u00e9n en los famosos jardines de Babilonia (2845 a. C.). Fueron muy populares tambi\u00e9n entre griegos y romanos. En la \u00abIliada\u00bb, Afrodita embalsama con aceite de rosas el cuerpo muerto de H\u00e9ctor. Los cultivadores de rosas o rosalistas del siglo xx se centraron en el tama\u00f1o y el color, para producir flores grandes y atractivas, aunque con poco o ning\u00fan aroma. C.). La rosa era considerada como s\u00edmbolo de belleza por babilonios, sirios, egipcios, romanos y griegos. En Egipto y Grecia tuvo una especial relevancia, y mucho m\u00e1s en Roma. Los romanos cultivaron la rosa intensamente, siendo utilizados sus p\u00e9talos para ornamento, as\u00ed como la planta en los jardines en una zona denominada Rosetum. Tras la Edad Media, donde su cultivo se restringi\u00f3 a Monasterios, vuelve a surgir la pasi\u00f3n por el cultivo del Rosal. Un ejemplo de esta pasi\u00f3n fue la emperatriz Josefina que a partir de 1802 en su Palacio de la Malmaison lleg\u00f3 a poseer una colecci\u00f3n de 650 rosales. Las colecciones de rosas se han multiplicado desde entonces.<\/p>\n<p>A fines de 1700, fue introducida en Europa, R. semperflorens, conocida como Rosa de Bengala, con flores peque\u00f1as agrupadas. Para el comienzo de 1800, fue introducida en Europa, R. indica var. fragans, conocida con el nombre de Rosa de T\u00e9, originaria de la China (conocida tambi\u00e9n como R. chinensis).<\/p>\n<p>La era moderna de las rosas se inicia a partir de 1867 con la creaci\u00f3n del primer ejemplar h\u00edbrido de t\u00e9 por el productor franc\u00e9s Guillot, quien la llam\u00f3: \u00abLa France\u00bb. El invento surgi\u00f3 por casualidad, cuando Guillot estaba intentando mejorar una rosa naranja. El resultado fue una flor muy olorosa y con una larga floraci\u00f3n, distinta en tama\u00f1o y caracter\u00edsticas a las rosas que hab\u00eda hasta entonces. La rosa de t\u00e9 original, anterior a la creaci\u00f3n de los h\u00edbridos que sucedieron a la invenci\u00f3n de Guillot de Francia, era m\u00e1s peque\u00f1a, casi sin olor y se produc\u00eda en una escasa paleta crom\u00e1tica: blanco, rosa y rojo.<\/p>\n<p>Durante el siglo xix empiezan a llegar variedades del extremo oriente, donde su cultivo fue tambi\u00e9n muy relevante por los antiguos jardineros chinos (existen datos del cultivo de rosales hacia 3000 a.
